Drug Uses
Prednisolone is used as a supplementary aid that modifies the body's immune response to various conditions- allergies, arthritis, asthma, certain blood disorders, certain eye diseases, leukemia, endocrine and problems and many other conditions determined by your doctor.

How Taken
Prednisolone comes in tablets to be taken by mouth depending of the treated condition the dosage can vary from 5mg to 60mg a day. Always consult your doctor when taking Prednisolone.

Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Prednisolone , tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Prednisolone , if you have heart disease including irregular heartbeat or have had a heart attack, a history of depression or suicidal tendencies, you are scheduled to have surgery, consume alcoholic beverages, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Prednisolone while you are pregnant. Prednisolone is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Prednisolone , check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Prednisolone . Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Prednisolone if you are taking sodium oxybate (GHB). Children and teenagers who take Prednisolone may be at increased risk for suicidal thoughts or actions. Adults may also be affected. The risk may be greater in patients who have had suicidal thoughts or actions in the past. The risk may also be greater in patients who have had bipolar (manic–depressive) illness, or if their family members have had it. Watch patients who take Prednisolone closely. Contact the doctor at once if new, worsened, or sudden symptoms such as depressed mood, anxious, restless, or irritable behavior, panic attacks, or any unusual change in mood or behavior occur. Contact the doctor right away if any signs of suicidal thoughts or actions occur. Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Prednisolone before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. Prednisolone should not be used in children younger than 6 years old. Safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed. Prednisolone may sometimes cause a prolonged, painful erection. This could happen even when you are not having sex. If this is not treated right away, it could lead to permanent sexual problems, such as impotence. Contact your doctor right away if this occurs.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- constipation, dizziness, flushing, giddiness, headache, heartburn, heat sensation, lightheadedness, nausea, weakness. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), irregular pulse, shortness of breath, swelling of the feet or hands, tender, bleeding, or swollen gums.

Storage
Store this medication at room temperature, between 59 –86 °F (15 –30 °C) in a tightly closed container. Keep away from heat, moisture, and light (not in the bathroom). Keep the medication out of the reach of children.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, seek medical attention immediately. Some of the possible symptoms of overdose are- dizziness, fainting, loss of consciousness, rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat.

More Information
Prednisolone may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. These effects may worsen if Prednisolone is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Prednisolone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Prednisolone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
