Drug Uses
Ceftin is used against bacterial infections (sinus, skin, lung, urinary tract, ear, and throat). It may also a good remedy Lyme disease and gonorrhea. Ceftin kills bacteria destroying its walls.

How Taken
Take Ceftin with a full glass of water as directed by your doctor. Take Ceftin with or without a meal. It is recommended to drink extra fluids while taking Ceftin. If you also take any products containing magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, or zinc (eg, vitamins/minerals, antacids), didanosine, sucralfate, or bismuth subsalicylate, do not take them within 6 hours before or 2 hours after taking Ceftin. To clear up your infection completely, take Ceftin for the full course of treatment. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days.

Warnings/Precautions

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- constipation, dizziness, flushing, giddiness, headache, heartburn, heat sensation, lightheadedness, nausea, weakness. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), irregular pulse, shortness of breath, swelling of the feet or hands, tender, bleeding, or swollen gums.

Storage
Store this medication at room temperature, between 59 –86 °F (15 –30 °C) in a tightly closed container. Keep away from heat, moisture, and light (not in the bathroom). Keep the medication out of the reach of children.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected, seek medical attention immediately. Some of the possible symptoms of overdose are- dizziness, fainting, loss of consciousness, rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat.

Before taking Ceftin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Ceftin, if you have Alzheimer disease, a brain or nervous system disorder, a problem with the blood vessels in your brain, diarrhea, a stomach infection, liver problems, kidney problems, increased pressure in your brain, seizures, inflammation of your tendons, joint problems, or a skin sensitivity to the sun, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Ceftin while you are pregnant. Ceftin is found in breast milk. Do not breast–feed while taking Ceftin. Some medicines may interact with Ceftin. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Ceftin if you have recently received a live, oral typhoid vaccination or you are taking cisapride or tizanidine. Avoid taking Ceftin with milk or milk products (such as yogurt or calcium–enriched juice) by themselves. However, taking Ceftin as part of a full meal that contains milk or milk products is permitted. Long–term or repeated use of Ceftin may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this. Ceftin only works against bacteria, it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold). Avoid large amounts of food or drink that have caffeine (eg, coffee, tea, cocoa, and cola, chocolate). Rest and avoid exercise until further instruction from your doctor if you experience pain or swelling of a tendon. Ceftin may affect your blood sugar. If you are a diabetic, check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine. Ceftin may cause you to become sunburned more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Ceftin. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of Ceftin. Caution is advised when using Ceftin in children. They may be more sensitive to its effects, especially joint and tendon problems.
